Scoliosis correction surgery straightens and stabilizes an abnormally curved spine using rods, screws, and bone grafting to gradually realign the vertebrae. It is most often performed for progressive curves that affect posture, breathing, or quality of life, in both adolescents and adults. The goal is to halt curve progression, improve spinal alignment, and relieve associated pain.
Surgery is generally considered when the spinal curve exceeds 45-50 degrees, continues to progress despite bracing, or causes pain, breathing difficulty, or reduced quality of life. Your spine specialist will assess curve severity through X-rays and clinical examination.
